A peek inside Jessica’s Diary - Issue 2- November 2005

What’s that in my in tray? A mystery teddy, I think he must have been reading about Jessica’s new workshop ‘Leadership and the natural world’, oh he definitely has, look he’s sat on Jessica’s diary. Now what’s that doing in there, shall we have a peek? I’m sure she’s been up to lots of interesting things since she last left her diary lying around.

In case you’ve been wondering who I am, here’s a short message about me. To Jessica and her friends I am known as an Olivia! My name is Olivia and I work at Number 1 Harley Street. I look after Jessica and manage her diary for Harley Street, not always an easy task as Jessica also carries a diary but we usually manage to correspond ok. I have many interests but the main one outside of Harley Street is my hobby of making Greetings cards, wedding invitations etc. Supplying Jessica keeps me busy on my days off. Well enough about me onto the diary.

When we left the diary last time Jessica was off to Iceland so let’s see her exploits there. According to Jessica it was 28ºC in London when she left, and on arrival in Iceland it was only 9ºC and a strong wind - the weather wasn’t much better either!

The CEO Clubs event www.ceoclubs.org was a challenging and very enjoyable experience. With a diverse and interesting mix of businesses and members, mainly from the USA and the visit was not only rewarding from a professional point of view, but proved to be an extremely enjoyable time socially.

Apparently Jessica had watched the advert about tipping in Iceland, and was not caught out there but nobody had warned her to steer clear of the shark hors d’oevre! It was after sampling them she found out that they’d been buried for three weeks before they are eaten, it did help explain why they “tasted more like a funeral than a delicacy”.
Thank goodness the rest of the food was a great improvement.

So after that experience she was not amused to be woken by the telephone at 4.00am in the morning to be joyfully told it was her wake up call! Jessica “explained” it was requested for 5.45am which arrived soon after to begin another exciting day.

Almeria - Spain:
Off to the airport again after just a few short days at home. This time sunglasses not thermal underwear!

The purpose of the trip to Almeria was to search for retreat venues with Annie Lawler.
One of the highlights was a spa in the Almeria Mountains. It was less of a retreat venue, but a definite bolt hole for her personally. The hotel specializes in spa treatments using their unique natural waters. They have a bottling plant in the village (not like Del Boy’s!) The hotel is used almost exclusively by the Spanish, luckily for Jessica, Annie has been very diligent in learning the language and facilitated the meeting admirably.

The most interesting venue from a retreat point of view was a residence built by a local Spanish lady who dreamed for many years of building a hotel in this nature reserve area. It is completely sympathetic to the natural environment; the whole design is a work of art in itself and houses a gallery of beautiful works of art produced by the local community. Annie chose some excellent places to view but this was her own personal choice and Jessica had to agree with her.

The last night was spent in Annie’s and Ralph’s beautiful house in Mojacca and Jessica managed to grab a few hours on the beach before the flight - a few hours of bliss lazing on the beach wearing her kitten healed flip flops, purchased earlier in the day, but Ralph would never forgive her if she told you why they’d all had to go shopping!! Even I don’t know, it’s not in the diary!!

All too soon it was time for the airport again.

Training Course 7th September:
This was a thoroughly enjoyable day, power packed with an impressive group of delegates raring to go. One delegate couldn’t make it as he had to spend an extra day in hospital, so will join next year’s program. They all know how to use hypnosis and are already creating their own scripts as well as practicing in pairs on the day. Jessica also worked live and filmed the process so they can learn step by step how it works.

The venue was a huge hit with the delegates. Green Oak Barn is a listed, 16th Century converted barn. It’s a very special place that’s easy to get to. Delicious food and a friendly retriever add to the ambience.
If you'ld like to use it for your meeting or special event contact Sue Cheshire. sue@suecheshire.com

This year’s program was oversubscribed and the dates for the second program have been finalized for next year. For more details contact Joanna Jesson: Joanna.jesson@chiefexecutive.com

Alladale - Scotland:
Since Jessica’s last trip north of the border the lodge at Alladale has been completely refurbished. Jessica spent an extraordinarily enjoyable day and night there. The wilderness surroundings were even more breathtaking than she previously remembered. The trip out with the Rangers was an education in itself.

Paul Lister graciously hosted the event for members of the press and media. Jessica last saw this place in April as a building site, and was speechless at the transformation, (and she very rarely gets speechless!!). The food and wine was exceptional, and the Piper in her kilt completed the very Scottish evening.

The estate is served by water from its own bore hole and you are strongly recommended to drink it.

As usual it wouldn’t be Jessica without a bizarre ending! She loves to travel light for quickness and speed and whilst grabbing her bag from the aircrafts overhead locker, the laminated tag on her bag flicked out and caught her eyeball cutting it in three places, resulting in her spending the whole evening in Bedford Hospital A & E. (No time saved there then eh!) Oops she’s just come in, better hide this or I’ll have to duck if she reads that part!

Anglian Wolf Society:
A nice surprise awaited Jessica when she visited the Wolves. www.anglianwolf.com . They now have the addition of a lovely female wolf for Peyto and Chezza, her name is Sefka. The boys have now sorted out the fact that Chezza is definitely the alpha male and therefore most likely to mate with Sefka. Hopefully there will be some pups in the New Year, which could make it doubly exciting when Jessica and Phil host their ‘Leadership and the Natural World’ Workshop in June 2006.

Sad footnote from Jessica.
October 19th 2005 saw the passing of Ormond McGill aged 92 years.
Ormond was the inspiration and great friend of Gil Boyne who, in turn was my inspiration and teacher. I am honoured to have known and worked with Mr. McGill over the years and blessed to continue to enjoy Mr. Boyne as my dear friend.

Leadership and the natural world workshop

Jessica's interests in nature and leadership have led her to combine the two. The first in this series is a collaboration with animal behaviour expert Phil Watson and the wolves at the Anglian Wolf Society. You will learn about wolf leadership, hierarchy systems, body language and signs, conflict resolution, survival and social behaviour. You will discover the differences and similarities between wolf packs, business and corporate organisations. You will experience leadership and team issues translated into wolf pack behaviour and develop strategies and outcomes. You will benefit from addressing common issues from a completely different frame of reference. Workshops are held on site at the Anglian Wolf Society in a countryside environment in the company of Jessica, Phil and the wolves, Peyto, Chezza and Sefka. Anyone who is interested in expanding their knowledge and understanding of leadership issues. Those who would like a fresh way of looking at old issues. Anyone who may be interested in a very different and memorable corporate training experience for themselves, their teams or associates.
